In our first room the TV wouldn't work so we went down to the front desk and they put us in a different room when we went in that room the toilet was flushing even though we were the only two in the room later in that room we found 3 baby cockroaches in our bathroom 2 smushed baby ones in the bathroom and actual bedroom and a dead one half way under the wall that was huge. we also heard a man in the hallway say that there were bed bugs in his room. we wnet down to the front desk and they put us in a suite where there was once wet toilet paper stuck to the floors and walls, towels on the floor and about 100 dead mosquitoes in the tub and sink. then we checked out.

The hotel staff at the front door and desk were very nice (and I saw them take several complaints while I was standing there and they smiled and told the customers to call the corporate office to complain). The rooms are small (as expected from some posts) but boy were they FILTHY! The only clean thing were the towels and the sheets. I walked down to Walgreens on Michigan and bought Clorox wipes and Bathroom cleaner and came back and cleaned it down before unpacking and letting my children use the bathroom - no lie! Red Roof Inn seriously needs to put new mattresses on the beds - the top mattress is about 6 inches thick and SAGS so severely that you cannot be comfortable. Honestly - I wish I had paid more money and stayed at a nicer (read cleaner) establishment. The ladies down at the desk were super nice to us though - it is really the cleaning staff and the corporate office with updating the place that needs to get on the ball.

Red Roof Inn on Ontario, Chicago, IL
03/20/2010Rooms were spartan, amenities few, but for the price and the location, can't be beat.

I stayed at hotel June 5-7 2009, though the location of the hotel is perfect, the hotel & service itself is less then that. Upon checking in I was put into a room that was dirty and had spider webs in the in the windows and was the size of a closet (yes it's a downtown property I accepted that, the cleanliness however was not acceptable) I called down to the desk to see about switching rooms and was told I was in the largest room, they didn't offer to move me until I asked for a refund to move elsewhere. I was put in a much nicer room. This seemed to be partly remodeled. The day of check-out a person who was in the room with me dropped their phone between the bed and wall, went to pick it up and found old dried up vomit on the wall, floor and side of the bed. At check out i brought it to the ladies attention and was simply asked if I would like another copy of my bill. I decided that when I got home I would call the manager. Manager was nice apologized and offered to refund my money. Long story short it has been about TWO months and due to lake of competence, and just plan disregard with the extent of this issue; I am STILL waiting for my refund. The customer service is seriously lacking, I have gone through 3 different people promising my refund, none of which have actually followed through. I would advise you spend the extra money and stay in a much cleaner hotel to avoid any situation of this matter.

This is a hotel you stay at if you really don't care about the room at all. The service at the front desk was ok but it seemed like they didn't have enough staff working. It took 3 requests to finally get a pack and play brought to the room. We left the hotel at 4pm and they said they would put it up there and when we got back at 9:30pm it still was in the room. It was pretty basic in the room. We found live bugs in the bathroom (disgusting by the way) and food from other travelers on the floor of the room in plain sight. They left us with 1/4 roll of toilet paper in the room and no extra and when we went downstairs to get more the front desk clerk said he couldn't leave the desk at the moment (understaffed) and gave us some facial tissues to use. Finally when we were checking out the front desk clerk ran out of paper for the computer and then took 10 minutes to find more, mumbling to himself the whole time. In closing, if you want to stay here in Chicago with your family and young ones do not go here. If you're just in town to catch a couple of Cubs games or something and not going to be in the room much then you can beat the price but don't expect anything nice at all.
